It would warm your heart to know that something as simple as a book, an encouraging word and a visit from a cartoon character could bring so much enthusiasm and excitement to a youngster.

Over the past four years, we have distributed over 35,000 books to children in our quest to foster a love for books and to underscore the importance of learning to read.

Throughout the last four years, we have identified groups of children who are the most likely not to have books of their own and who need extra encouragement.

New in 2007 will be a sharpening of the focus of our book distribution to include, in particular, children whose lives have been impacted by:

Homelessness

A family member's incarceration

Children experiencing trauma

Also new this year, we will be providing books to other agencies in North Alabama who serve children whose lives have been impacted by events in these focus areas.

Our goal for 2007 is to distribute 15,000 books to these children through BOOKS R COOL.
